Vac Therapy

Started a trial of using Vac Therapy for large non healing Diabetic Wounds.

The procedure and equipment are very simple:

  • Wound is cleaned with saline.
  • Draped with a sterile Gauze Cotton (gamjee) pad.
  • Sterile Foley's catheter inserted into the pad and connected to a simple suction machine.
  • Cling wrap used to seal the edges.
  • Pressure of - 100 mmHg is maintained for 30 minutes.
  • Suction disconnected and local hyperoxygenation using an Oxygen Concentrator delivering 95% O2 at 4 lpm for 30 minutes.
  • Oxygen disconnected and suction reapplied for 30 minutes.
  • Daily for 5 days.
  • Results are encouraging.
