Started a trial of using Vac Therapy for large non healing Diabetic Wounds.
The procedure and equipment are very simple:
- Wound is cleaned with saline.
- Draped with a sterile Gauze Cotton (gamjee) pad.
- Sterile Foley's catheter inserted into the pad and connected to a simple suction machine.
- Cling wrap used to seal the edges.
- Pressure of - 100 mmHg is maintained for 30 minutes.
- Suction disconnected and local hyperoxygenation using an Oxygen Concentrator delivering 95% O2 at 4 lpm for 30 minutes.
- Oxygen disconnected and suction reapplied for 30 minutes.
- Daily for 5 days.
- Results are encouraging.
